The Northeastern women’s soccer team begins its quest for a second CAA Championship in as many years today when the Huskies take on the Dukes of James Madison at 5:30 p.m. today. It is the first time the team has hosted a playoff game and the fans should come out tonight to support what a special season the team is having.

Other Notes:

  • Devin Petta dominated the CAA Awards Banquet last night as she was named CAA Player of the Year and CAA Rookie of the Year. It is the first time anyone in the CAA has taken both awards in the same season. Coach Ed Matz was named CAA Coach of the Year and the team also boasts one player on the All-CAA first team (Devin Petta), two on the second team (Sandra Magnusdottir, Stephanie Gordon) and one on the third team (Kristen Blake).

Huskies Get First Win

October 27, 2009

Just wanted to throw out a congratulations to the Northeastern Huskies football team for getting their first win of the season, 27-7 over the Towson Tigers. I was in attendance and the team scored on a couple big plays to put Towson away early. John Griffin is really looking like a nice runner and the defense played another good game (this time for an entire 60 minutes) as they recorded five interceptions. It was their first win in thirteen games! Congrats to the team.

Other Northeastern Huskies News:

  • The women’s soccer team is ready to face Hofstra on Friday at Parsons Field. They are the top two teams in the CAA and the winner will host the CAA Tournament.
  • Staying on the soccer field, the men’s soccer team is also on a roll and find themselves in first place with four games to go. They have won six of their last seven games to bounce back from a dreadful 1-5 start to the season.
  • Finally, the men’s basketball team is getting ready to start their season against Siena on November 17. Matt Janning is hungry to finally push this team to a NCAA berth. In past years, the team has always faltered at the end of the season, but hopefully they right the ship this season.
